Platform Overview

The fully automated BenchMark XT IHC/ISH staining instrument has the flexibility you need to expand your test menu, process more slides, and improve turnaround time versus manual or semi-automated systems — all with no increase in staff. The flexible automation afforded by the BenchMark XT staining instrument will provide users with excellent results through the consistency and reliability of walk-away automation.

Structure

The BenchMark XT instrument is comprised of three main modules that work together to automate slide processing from baking through staining. The seamless integration of each module in this system allows for increased workflow with staining flexibility and rapid turnaround time. This ease of automation grants walk-away convenience and operational simplicity.

Modules

The staining module creates an optimized environment for the automated preparation and processing of IHC and ISH applications. The automated fluidics module houses bulk solutions specifically formulated to enhance the kinetics and reproducibility of automated applications. On-board bulk fluid capacity is sufficient to process up to 90 IHC slides. The waste module consists of two easy-to-empty containers with independent level sensing, which have a combined capacity to collect the waste generated by up to 90 IHC slides.

Slide Technology

The slide kinetics have been optimized through the precisely controlled reaction environment of the BenchMark XT IHC/ISH staining module with Air Vortex Mixers, Liquid Coverslip, individual slide heater pads, and the E-Bar barcode slide label system. Air-Vortex Mixers blend the aqueous layer under the Liquid Coverslip, mixing reagents and ensuring uniform reaction kinetcs across the entire surface of the slide. Liquid Coverslip creates a reaction chamber on the surface of each slide, controlling evaporation and protecting tissue integrity. The individual slide heater pads provide highly precise heating across the entire surface of each slide. The E-Bar barcode slide label system generates a slide-specific label enabling automatic programming, patient and case identification.

Workflow

The connectivity capability of BenchMark XT instruments with LIS systems, central management and VANTAGE workflow solution can increase laboratory productivity and reduce potential errors while reducing the labor required by semi-automated or manual systems.
